2 pin<\/li>\n<li>engine oil pressure sensor &#8211; 3 pin<\/li>\n<li>crankshaft position sensor &#8211; 3 pin<\/li>\n<li>knock sensors (2) &#8211; 2 pin<\/li>\n<li>camshaft position sensor &#8211; 3 pin<\/li>\n<li>manifold absolute pressure (MAP) &#8211; 3 pin<\/li>\n<li>mass air flow (MAF) &#8211; 5 pin<\/li>\n<li>fuel injectors (8, 4 on each side of block) &#8211; 2 pin<\/li>\n<li>ignition coil blocks (2) &#8211; 8 pin<\/li>\n<li>electronic throttle control &#8211; 6 pin<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>There are four engine harness connections to related components:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>vehicle speed sensor (VSS) &#8211; 2 pin on the 4L65e transmission<\/li>\n<li>oxygen sensors (2) &#8211; 5 pin on each exhaust manifold<\/li>\n<li>accelerator pedal sensor &#8211; 6 pin on the pedal assembly<\/li>\n<li>alternator control connector &#8211; 1 pin on the alternator<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>There are 7 tube openings on the block:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>coolant steam vent (to Radium reservoir)<\/li>\n<li>crankcase vent dirty air PVC vent (capped)<\/li>\n<li>clean air PVC intake (to MAF intake)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/krissmotors.com\/XJ6\/2018\/05\/14\/emissions\/\">EVAP emission purge solenoid<\/a> (removed) and dirty air vent (capped)<\/li>\n<li>vacuum port for brake servo<\/li>\n<li>fuel rail 3\/8&#8243; intake tube (converted to -6AN fitting)<\/li>\n<li>fuel rail end port (for fuel pressure gauge)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In addition, the GM Supermatic 4L65E transmission has a round plug connection from the transmission harness.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Block_connectors_and_openings\"><\/span>Block connectors and openings<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Here is a visual guide to some of the connectors and tube openings on the LS3 block.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Coolant_sensor\"><\/span>Coolant sensor<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_3346\" style=\"width: 340px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/krissmotors.com\/XJ6\/wp-content\/uploads\/C1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3346\" src=\"https:\/\/krissmotors.com\/XJ6\/wp-content\/uploads\/C1-330x244.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"330\" height=\"244\" class=\"alignleft\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3346\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">LS3 coolant sensor on driver side<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_3374\" style=\"width: 340px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/krissmotors.com\/XJ6\/wp-content\/uploads\/HDX-coolant-install.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3374\" src=\"https:\/\/krissmotors.com\/XJ6\/wp-content\/uploads\/HDX-coolant-install-330x264.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"330\" height=\"264\" class=\"alignleft\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3374\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">HDX coolant sensor location on passenger side<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The factory sensor, located on the <em>driver side<\/em> just in front of the exhaust manifold, must be enhanced by a special Dakota Digital <em>SEN-04-5<\/em> sensor designed for the HDX dash display which is installed on the opposite <em>passenger side<\/em> of the block. <\/p>\n<p>Coolant sensing is required for the LS3 ECM in order to operate the cooling fan, so two sensors are actually required, one for the HDX and another for the LS3 ECM. <\/p>\n<p>The SEN-04-5 sensor has 1\/8&#8243; NPT threads and Dakota Digital supplies a 1\/8 NPT-to-12mm bushing with a crush washer that mounts into a plugged port on the rear passenger side of the block. Wiring from the SEN-04-5 goes directly to the HDX through the bulkhead and is not incorporated into the LS3 engine harness.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Engine_oil_pressure_sensor\"><\/span>Engine oil pressure sensor<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_3350\" style=\"width: 340px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/krissmotors.com\/XJ6\/wp-content\/uploads\/oil-pressure-white-cap.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3350\" src=\"https:\/\/krissmotors.com\/XJ6\/wp-content\/uploads\/oil-pressure-white-cap-330x290.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"330\" height=\"290\" class=\"alignleft\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3350\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Oil pressure (white) and brake servo vacuum (red)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The HDX display also requires a special <em>SEN-03-8<\/em> oil pressure sensor. However, unlike the coolant sensor, the LS3 ECM <em>does not<\/em> require oil pressure data for operation. <\/p>\n<p>Thus, the Dakota Digital SEN-03-8 sensor can simply replace the factory original one, and the oil pressure sensor extension of the factory LS3 harness will not be used. The SEN-03-8 is wired directly into the Dakota Digital HDX unit. Dakota Digital supplies a 1\/8 NPT-to-16mm bushing that fits into the factory port.<\/p>\n<p>Engine vacuum supply for the brake servo is located by the oil pressure sensor.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Knock_and_crankshaft_position_CKP_sensors\"><\/span>Knock and crankshaft position (CKP) sensors<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_3354\" style=\"width: 340px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/krissmotors.com\/XJ6\/wp-content\/uploads\/knock-and-CKP.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3354\" src=\"https:\/\/krissmotors.com\/XJ6\/wp-content\/uploads\/knock-and-CKP-330x279.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"330\" height=\"279\" class=\"alignleft\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3354\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Knock and camshaft position sensors<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Two knock sensors on opposite sides of the lower engine block protect the engine by enabling the ECM to change ignition timing. But to make access easier, an extension harness bends around the harmonic balancer and terminates near the bottom of the block on the right side (when facing the engine). The harness connector thus points down. <\/p>\n<p>The CMP signals the ECM about the camshaft position and operates in sync with the CKP. The CMP determines which injector to fire. The VSS is required for LS3 &#8220;Connect and Cruise&#8221; mating to the transmission. <\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Mass_airflow_MAF\"><\/span>Mass airflow (MAF)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The throttle body sits at the top center of the LS3 engine and points slightly up. The wide circular opening attaches to a long &#8220;pipe&#8221; with the MAF sensor embedded on the left side and a port for &#8220;clean&#8221; PVC air on the right.
