Replace heater valve

Quote

Does anyone know how to remove the heater valve on a 1974 Sonett III? And where to buy a new one?

This might work, or something similar: http://www.skandix.de/en/spare-parts/interior-temperature/heater/control-unit-heating/heater-control-valve/1064763/

An aftermarket universal valve might also work and is a lot cheaper. Don't think the original SAAB parts 8425993 or 8602708 are still available. Pretty easy to adapt hoses to an alternative control.

Thank you. Any tips on the removal?

Not a difficult removal. First, drain the entire cooling system and dispose of the coolant properly. Disconnect the hoses by loosing the clamps and then gently pull the hoses off.  The valve itself should be easy to detach once the fluid is drained and the hoses removed.

From the engine bay or from the interior of the car?

Check the Sonett III Restoration Gallery under the HEATER section - that may help.

Here is the page from the service manual. It is attached from the inside on the firewall near the steering shaft. I don't know if the hose connections are accessable through the hood. If not, you may be able to detach the valve and pull the hoses inside to disconnect them. Expect liquid and be careful of the capillary.
