Classic 1962-67 Beetle tail light

The New Beetle large oval shaped tail lights cannot be reused on the Ute transformation, so new pigtails must be fabricated for an appropriate substitution.

We’ve selected the classic 1962-67 Beetle Euro style lamp because it was originally mounted on a sloping fender much like the Ute’s design and fits in with the retro wood bed and other light styling. We also decided to stay with incandescent bulbs instead of LEDs to maintain a period-correct appearance. While the 1960s brake lamp is dim by modern standards, the addition of the raised third brake light above the rear window should provide a sufficient safety margin.
