Background
The stylistic stepside design on the Beetle Ute can be embellished with a metal or rubber tread plate. A contoured shape — that is, one that closely follows the edges of the step platform — can be flat or have a raised pattern on the surface like diamond plate.
An alternative rounded design suggests more of a step shape. Given our retro choice of a wood plank truck bed, the rounded rectangular step tread makes sense.
Tread plates can be glued with 3M Panel Bonding Adhesive or secured with machine screws and rivnuts.
We prefer the screw approach because this makes the plates removable; using 10-24 button heads will match the top rail cap installation.
